I celebrated my 53rd blog post and decided it was time for a break. I will get back to it soon enough, just in time to welcome spring!
In the meantime, I wanted to share a bit about a new project.
I’ve been trying to envision a new way forward. Between a pandemic pivot in my career and a 50th birthday mid-life marker, I’d say, I am having a bit of a mid-life crisis. Fun.
According to a quick google search, some say more than half of all yoga studios have closed since 2020. Mine was one of them. Honestly, there were parts of letting it all go which came as a relief; no more crossing of fingers that we made rent, no more cleaning a 1500 square foot space, and no more juggling of schedules.
One thing I didn't expect when the studio closed is that while processing all of the things we all had to process through the pandemic - I would also be processing a loss of identity. Unexpectedly, it was hard to let go of the identity of being a "yoga studio owner." Every time I unlocked the door and entered the gorgeous historic building, I was in love. It somehow made me feel accomplished in my career path. It somehow legitimized what I did for a living, at least to the part of myself that needed that. It was a title I was really proud of for over 17 years.
I've definitely moved through the identity crisis and really love what I've gained forging a new path forward through the on-line space. What I still do really miss, however, is being in the direct company and energy of others. I miss being together in a sacred space. I miss being able to gently adjust someone's alignment in a pose that shifts their body awareness forever.
Moving forward with a new vison.
My goal is to create a hybrid model and launch the healing hut, a little (300 sq ft) yoga yurt that brings people together to practice. The online studio is the perfect platform to immerse in the yoga psychology and philosophy that really breaths a deeper transformation. Yet, there’s nothing like an in person practice that builds strong connections to support change.
If you appreciate what I offer through writing, yoga, and ayurveda
-- consider donating to further support my work. Every little bit will help us reach our goal and the yoga yurt will soon be a reality.
Thanks for being dedicated readers over the last year! I will be back soon with more conversation on all things yoga, ayurveda, and mental wellness. 🙏
