I’ve edited our practices this week into several options:
Below is a Full Moon Ritual as a short, audio guided meditation (9:20)- it sets a new intention and connects you to the divine feminine of creativity and receptivity.
Above there’s a full experience with Chandra Bhedana, a lunar pranayama, and a guided Moon Salutation practice (43:52). For members, there are bonus practice notes, and a printable pdf at the very bottom.
Hello Moon!
Lately in classes, we’ve been spending some time learning and modifying moon salutation.
Most of us are well acquainted with the O.G. practice, sun salutation. This is a flow that prepares you for the day with a heating and activating approach. It revs the engine boosting energy and focus.
But today feels like the perfect time to balance the intensity of the first full moon of spring. While it’s less traditional, a baby at only 40ish years old, I’m over-the-moon grateful for the women at Kripalu* for creating a flow that chills out the surge of the sun. *(shout out to Megha)
Moon salutation is a moving meditation in honor of those feminine qualities that cool and soften. It’s in this dedication that we honor intuition and receptivity. It calms and quiets with gentle hip openers. The rhythm draws us into goddess pose and leaves us the beautiful balance of strength and grace.
The variation that I share is a little more knee friendly and accessible. It’s a simple practice to transition you into the evening hours and give you the means to release and process the day.
Full Moon Ritual
Bringing hands together at heart in Lotus Mudra.
The thumbs and the pinkies stay connected. The heel of the hands stays connected, but the fingers extend to create the petals of the lotus. Lotus Mudra creates a little collection bowl.
Open into this receptivity
What is it that you wish to receive?
Whether it’s something tangible, a higher ideal,
a dreamy wish, or the fruition of a goal…
Imagine it being gathered into the folds of the petals.
Release Lotus Mudra, bring the hands together
at the heart, seal in your intention.
